18 year old Lev overhears a conversation of an emigrant who has not been home for a decade in a consulate abroad.
Lev returns to Moscow 6 years later to interview an oppositionery political leader. Before, he meets with his dominant ex-girlfriend Polina, who disrespects him because he drinks.
On the recording day, the police breaks in the studio and arrests the opositioner. They fight, and the fight hits a model in a room nearby. She falls to the ground, Lev helps her stand up. They have a deep conversation. Lev realises this is what he needs.
Lev comes next to the house of Polina and farewells in her window. On the border, leaving Russia, Lev is told he cannot exit the country. Lev smiles. He imagines his future life in Russia. The officers laugh at each other and tell Lev they were joking. Lev nods, picks up his luggage and proceeds to the gate.

A young man in the modern day travels from Berlin to Auschwitz to do his coursework. There he is faced with terror and reflects on that his grandparents weren’t German. In the midst of the exposition, he wants to run away, but the driver tells him he is not going anywhere. The man finishes his work in the exposition, discovering deeper faith and love for life.
